In summer, life takes place in Frankfurt am Main outdoors with live music, under shady trees, right on the river, on the water, with a cool drink in a deck chair or splashing around. For city travelers who like to party, chill and enjoy a great cultural diversity, no holiday wishes remain open. The skyline, which is unique in Germany, can be experienced in a variety of ways, especially in summer. And with all the tips you can meet locals to make a nice day or evening together.

Open-air concerts for cozy summer evenings

All music lovers will experience a summer concert on August 23 on the northern banks of the Main river between the pub "Oosten" and the "Flößerbrücke" bridge. At the extraordinary open-air concert, the Hessischer Rundfunk will be presenting two concerts for free and under the open sky on the river. The beginning of the Weseler shipyard makes the hr big band at 6 pm. At 8 pm the hr symphony orchestra will perform. This year, musically everything revolves around Lithuania.

At the Weseler shipyard, the summer shipyard will take place again from 20 July to 5 August 2018. For over 15 years, the festival brings theater air, sound and magic to the banks of the Main. Artists perform open-air, on stage, in the Bedouin or in the theater tent. The program includes more than 100 events with free admission. The repertoire includes: Djs, live bands, theater, cinema and much more.

The Frankfurt Palmengarten is also an integral part of the city's summer cultural life. At the Summer in the City, artists from all over the world gather in the bandstand. The top-class program ranges from folk to avant-garde. The game will be played from July 24 to August 21, starting at 19:30. Before visitors enjoy a musical evening under the open sky, a small excursion through the beautiful green palm garden can be made.

Midsummer Night dreamers are also well on the open air festival "DIE DRAMATIC STAGE" in Grüneburgpark lifted. The theater, a Frankfurt institution, specializes in the treatment of classics, such as works by Goethe and Shakespeare, each presented in its own special way with a lot of comedy, tempo and music. The season starts on July 12th and ends on September 2nd.

Celebrate in the open air until the clouds are purple again

During the summer months, the visitor's terrace at Terminal 2 of Frankfurt Airport turns into an extraordinary event location for all ages: drink refreshing cocktails in the setting sun, have a nice chat, watch the planes take off and land while music plays – Frankfurt Airport invites on July 19, August 16 and September 20, 2018 for the after-work party. The celebrations take place from 6 pm to midnight. Tickets are available four weeks before the event date at www.events.frankfurt-airport.com. Spontaneous will receive a ticket at the box office.

From May to October, it's time to get going and full steam ahead towards pleasure with after-work shipping on the Main. While the lower deck offers a gastronomic offer with soft music, the party guests on the upper deck can dance to current hits or a mixture of many other styles. If you want to take a break from dancing, you can relax on the railing and let the skyscraper panorama on the shore pass by. The departure is at 18:30 or 19:30, at the Ironbridge. For those who prefer a quieter pace, the one-hour skylight tour is recommended, as the view from the water to the imposing skyline, especially in the dark, is impressive.

Fun in the water

In the summer, cool wet is announced, as in Frankfurt am Main. The Brentanobad is located in the Brentanopark, in the Rödelheimer Parkweg. The swimmer pool is about 220m x 50m the largest in Germany and also the green areas for lying are huge. Sport fans are also not forgotten: There are three beach volleyball fields and football players have enough space to let off steam.

From mid-May to mid-September, the water playgrounds are in operation. The playground in Günthersburg Park has u. a. a large water feature area, where great kids scream for pleasure. Chilling by the river

Sometimes it only takes a few wooden benches, a little cider, beer or wine and delicious snacks – and the heart radiates. In Maincafé, all of Frankfurt is meeting to be close to the river and to have a "first row view" of the skyline. Sun loungers can be rented, otherwise helps bring a brought blanket to sit. The maritime and elegant roof terrace (parking garage stock exchange) of the beach club Long Island Summer Lounge offers more than 500 seats on almost 2000 square meters and is equipped among other things with two pools and a playground. The lounge has even made it into the "Top Ten" of the "coolest roof terraces in Germany".

In "City Beach" (Töngesgasse 8, access via the Konstablerwache car park), visitors feel like they are in distant Sicily. Palm trees, olive trees, beach chairs, hammocks and sun loungers provide holiday flair. There is also a beach volleyball field and two pools. From there you have a great view of the skyline of Mainhattan.

During a walk on the Main, the harbor pub Oosten is perfect for a stop off. Spectacular 270-degree perspectives on the Frankfurt skyline, the urban river landscape and the glass facade of the ECB are included on its magnificent roof terrace. Since the sun is setting in the west, this location is the perfect place to watch the sun disappear from the east.
